Trying to get my trolling motor setup running again. Did some trouble shooting and determined it was the solenoid. Problem is that it’s so worn and corroded I can’t read a part number. It does say Cole Hersee Mass USA. I have a 24v system. I googled it and really only see 1 24v solenoid from this company, and a 12v. Any fault with my logic.
To say I’m a novice w/ electrical is an understatement. I don’t even understand what a solenoid does. It’s been a good setup and I don’t need to change it. Thinking it would be easier to just swap parts.
Trolling motors do not have solenoids, so I would say it must be the breaker, probably 40 or 50 amp. Go to West Marine and they have them on the shelf for around $35-$40.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day. FISH 24/7---- 25 Grady w/ a couple of Gas Guzzling 175 Johnsons “O-SEA-D” the old “Havanadaydream”
remove the device in question, and straight wire the cable to teh battery, just to test, if it works properly, disconnect, and get a 50 amp circuit breaker
There IS a solenoid in the wiring. I know it’s uncommon. It’s rigged with a push button instant shut off/on button that is mounted flush to the deck. The previous owner had it rigged.
I guess so you can turn the motor off hands free when you hook up. I need new batteries anyway. Picking up the Costco’s deep cycle($60 bucks 3 yr warranty) If that doesn’t “push through” the solenoid I’ll replace it too
go to wally world and look in the sporting goods section. they make a remote switch for a trolling motor called a big foot. cost about $15. i think thats what your looking for.
