Solo Trip Sun 3 Jun 12

The last two weekends were a weather bust so i was hoping to get out this weekend. All i asked couldn’t go or made up excuses.
Undetered i went anyway alone.Left out of georgetown 6am. Did some bottom fishing for awhile and wore myself out with black seaBass of which i kept my meager limit of 5. Caught my limit of grouper as well three nice broomtails.
Needed a break from hauling up fish so ventured out a littel south of the scarp north of the Gt hole to do some trolling. Found some promising water with no boats around as fishing alone does have its challenges. Put out four lines mangaged 4 nice mahi w/ pole in one hand gaff in the other didn’t lose any or fall overboard.
Got back around 6pm , refueled, cleaned the boat then cleaned the fish. Alot more work by myself. Got home around 10pm finshed fish and put em in the freezer. Great day on the water with all my friends LOL

Thats a grown up Scamp!

Nothing more satisfying than being on the big blue all alone, catching fish, and returning safely. Very strong indeed!

So, you wearing an inflatable life vest? PLB attached? Kill switch attached?

I ask because I currently have a rule against going out in the ocean by myself, and want to see whether I am being smart or chicken.

Great day!!! Good for you! You out fished the short yellow bus crew yesterday and they had a full crew!

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

Nice scamp if you ever need another head on the boat pm me I got exp and will chip in can’t get to them in my 17

grab the gaff and another cold beer

Pretty.

Good work- relying on the other people these days is like relying on my roommates psycho dog not to eat food off the table when i have my back turned 10 ft away…you just can’t do it

To tuxedo . no i wasn’t wearing a PFD as i’m a very good swimmer and its impossible to have kill swith attached as it would have to be 8-10ft long. I have fished alone before but will admitt one mistake and its a long swim home or worse. Trolling and fighting a fish with auto pilot is even more problematic as go over and somebody in bermuda will get a nice boat.
I enjoy the challange and even the risk being alone on the big ocean has its issues but so does having a whole crew. Just more people to ***** about a sinking boat i suppose. I would never call anybody chicken , everybody evaluates the risk as choses based on there own skill set and risk analysis. Too some thats cool , others its stupid. I have all the saftey gear on board and i did have my portable water proof VHF radio on my belt. Just in case i did fall over maybe i could call for a ride home or to get somebody to go lasso my boat heheh. Anyway it was good trip and if anybody is seroiusly worried about my safety and wants to get on my call list to go fishing drop me a PM.
I fish out of GT marina.

Another guy showed up where i was bottom fishing and watched me pull that bad boy in. He had his family with him , i gave him the poop on how where i was catchin them as i was already limited on Grouper . Turns out he caught one in that very spot even bigger. 23lbr .
Good for him, plus he thanked me when we met back at the dock .
very cool.

I use to do this all the time. As he mentions, you can’t wear the kill switch, so what I would do is tie a rope to the stern cleat and attach it to my ankle. It’s tough, but one can get back to the boat with this scenario if you experience a fall-out. Better than drifting for 9 hours. Trust me!!!

I want to thank you again for the great sportsmanship and one man fishing show you put on Sunday. Grew up old school no matter how much work or how far you have traveled to a hunting / fishing spot if someone gets there first it is theirs far as long as they are there. We did enjoy drifting nearby watching you limit out on several species including some excellent grouper. To have you call us on the radio and offer to share location and info set a impressive example for the young nephews on my boat. The family enjoyed limiting out on BSB, Silver Snapper, with a good measure of triggers,Vermillion, Spades and the day maker 23 plus pound Scamp Grouper.

We also fish out of GT Landing Marina if you ever need a hand at the Marina just give give us a call. I hope we get the chance to return the favor on the water one day. The super secret spot is safe with us. :slightly_smiling_face:. :slightly_smiling_face:

Awesome day on the water.

Great read!!! Thought about going out several times by myself when I get a day off from charters and just could not get the kahunas. Got all the safety gear but, I just worry about that one wrong move, but heck that could be turning left on 544 off of Hwy 17. IF you gotta go, I wanna go doing something I enjoy. Cool move on pulling Uncle KC over on the fish. He always has kids on the boat and while I do not know him well, he makes sure that they have a great time. Good on both of you for those big broomtails!!! E

Man, hard to believe you couldn’t find anyone to go out with you. Sounds like a few folks missed a good day.

To Uncle KC
Didn’t know you were on here. You are certainly welcome, I’m not a big hog of the ocean but certainly don’t like to be cornholed on a spot i’m working even it is well known. You were very curtious and once i saw the kids on the boat i was more than willing to share and help out. That particular spot is very small as you know. My normal fishing partner whose has never refused to go was my son but he has joined the Army and is currently in Basic training at Ft Benning. When he was on board i hardly ever touched a rod. I miss watching him fish and i enjoyed watching your young crew whip the sea bass over the rail. That Grouper you caught was surely a hog.
Congrats. Our Sports future is all about getting the next generation as excited about our passion as we are. Good on ya for that.
I’ll look ya up next time i’m around the marina.
