Solvents

What is the best solvent to soak carbs in? Trying to help a friend out with a yamaha 25. Is one method better than the other? Just wanted to soak them once before a complete carb kit to save him some money.

The carb cleaner/parts dip than comes in the paint can. Primary ingredient is usually dichloromethane.

try Yamaha carb cleaner in the quart bottle, Hanckle has it in stock

what hairball said. done a few and always used it. you can pick a gallon up and it comes with a dip basket. you can find them at any autozone or advanced auto.

Got the stuff at autozone and did the job. The boat now runs, but not when you start it up at idle. Runs great at higher rpm, so im guessing the low speed jets are still gummed up. I only soaked them for about 2 hours. Is a do over needed or just go ahead and get the carb kits?

You need to pull out the jets, push a small wire in all the holes, and blow it out with compressed air.
