Let me start off by saying how excited I was to get back out on the water. A couple weeks ago I went with a buddy who just bought a boat and had never been offshore before. He asked me to come show him the ropes and we didn’t get a bite. I wasn’t happy.
So, we decided to go Wednesday we had lines in the water around 7:30. We stopped in 150 ft of water and were marking bait everywhere. I put the shotgun out and before I could get my second line out, it went off and we boated a small wahoo. So we put the rest of the spread out and found a Black fin followed by a long stretch of trash fish. At 10:00 we hadn’t had a strike for about an hour that was worth anything so we moved a trolled to deeper water and found some scattered weeds. Picked up 7 dolphin. Most of them were slingers but we had tons of fun with them.
Water temp was 75. We never left 200 ft of water. Pink was the color of the day. One dolphin was caught on blue and white. All the others were on a combination of pink. Lots of flying fish on the water and sardines in the dolphins bellies.
Jerrett’s First Wahoo he has ever caught
I’m also a professional hand model in case anyone needs one.

I was tired of twisting cooper wire so I wanted to get in on the action.
New to the offshore thing so I’ll ask a stupid question ( sorry). Were ya’ll trolling lures with or without ballyhoo? Been looking at “jet” type lures and other skirted lures. Just trying to figure out what is best to use/spend my hard earned cash on for dolphin, wahoo and the occasional tuna? Would love to be able to just troll lures and skip the ballyhoo, but if this is not a good idea then…
Thanks for any sharing. PM if you want.

Blueline, I don’t know what to tell you. I was taught to fish ballyhoo and thats all I have every used. I’m not the best person to ask. I just got into offshore this time last year.

Thanks. Looks like it worked. I just see all these “jet” lures, stuff that produces bubble trails and all the metal and plastic headed lures. Looks like you could just go that route and save the headaches of rigging the ballyhoo, but I’m sure the real thing has to be the best thing…
