Some great advice

I’ve been doing this job a long time. It amazes me how often people leave the pier without leaving a solid float plan. Play it safe! Tell your loved ones where you’re going and spend some money on an epirb. I can’t stress how effective a properly registered epirb is.

Fully agree. At the VERY minimum, put a PLB and handheld VHF in a ditch bag with a few other emergency items.

With the cost of a PLB at around $250, there is absolutely NO excuse to not have one as part of your ditch bag (or on your person).

It was a great piece.

Great article, thanks for sharing. Stuff like this saves lives!

I do a float plan with wife even if inshore or just running the creeks.

Great article and awesome advice! For someone like me who runs offshore with a single engine boat, this is solid advice!

Picked up one of these at the Ft Lauderdale Boat Show last year for about $200, well made, very compact and I just keep it clipped on a belt loop. Ideal for inshore/nearshore boating. Regular price is around $250.
