Something ive been doing lately

Chumming reds with live bait. I have been fishing with an assortment of live baits lately and i throw all of the small shrimp, almost dead menhadens and crokers, stepped on shrimp, just what i consider inferior baits, right into the spots that the fish hang out. My thought process is this: I you have a set of docks or a stretch of shore line that the fish cruise around on, then there are certain spots along that shore line or stretch of docks that they hang out in more often. These will be like oyster bars, docks pilings that create eddies, drop offs, points ect. So,if i catch one in a “hold up spot” ill start throwing the inferior baits around that area and it seems to keep the other fish there and ready to eat. IDK, just noticed that i have been doing this alot lately and catching a good bit of fish while doing it.

As plentiful as spot tail are right now, I’d be scared that it would just draw in more crabs.

Son and I got our limit yesterday after finding an area out of the wind and ended up with 14 Big crabs. Went through a lot of bait for a few fish.

I heard someone saying to use shrimp heads from shrimp baiting for that. That’d be a good use for them if you had a way to keep them.

No crabs that i know of. Plus i have only been doing it when the fish are around so if a crab joins the party no problem. He might get eaten! Mostly what i have been using are shrimp that are really too small for good bait IMO and usually they are still alive.
