Yesterday I was looking for redfish on a flat near some deep water and another boat came up easing along watching a school of dolphins. They were quite active on the surface and then they’d all disappear under the water. In a couple minutes there’d be a ring of individual bubble spots surface. Maybe five or six two-foot circles of bubbles in a circumference of ten or twelve feet. I thought it may be something like the bubble screens that I’ve seen on TV from humpback whales to confuse and condense the bait ball but these weren’t a continuous screen.
Any ideas on what they were doing?
I’ve seen dolphins strand feeding on the mud banks before and that was pretty cool. This behavior was also pretty interesting.
Otherwise, I didn’t catch anything. I did pole up onto a school of reds b/c the water was too murky to see them from a distance. They scattered and I put out baits hoping to find them. I thought I had one but reeled in a stingray that didn’t even eat the mud minnow. It was wrapped up in my rig with the leader entangled in its barb. Very delicate maneuver to get it untangled.
