Son told me before the season that he wanted to get his “first buck or doe” this year. We saw a couple does early in the season before tags could be used, but pretty much nothing since then that we had a shot at. He’s sat a good 10-12 times this season with me. He said he wanted to sit this evening behind the house where I had seen a couple does yesterday. We ended up in our favorite 2 man ladder stand at the back corner of our property about 75yds from a 4 year old cut down/thicket. We were in the stand maybe 45 minutes when I heard’em coming, splashing through the water from the cutdown. I told Bryce to get the gun and we quickly got turned around as the group of does came trotting directly behind us at pretty close range. Something must have spooked them and they didn’t want to stop. I “meh”'d at them a couple times with no luck, so ended up yelling “hey!” and that got them to halt. Son put the .243 on a good sized doe just quartering away at about 12yds. He asked “shoot?”, I said yeah shoot! Can’t believe they hung around those brief couple seconds while we got into position for a shot, but it all worked out. At the shot kid yelled, “got eeem!” and i could tell it was hit. She ran about 40yds and fell over into the water! High fives, fist bumps, hugs, good times…

Awesome job , I know YOU will remember long after he does. Any chance you saved the tail / spent casing ? I see you brought it to Cordrays , I make the SC euro and shoulder mount panels for Kenneth . I also make another style which works great for 1st time harvests of Does and I would like to Give your young man one if interested. I have to drop off and order to him Tues nite , let me know and I will leave it for you to pick up. Does can be Trophies too and the kids need to show them off to family and friends the way we do with our Racks.
Congrats again.
Awesome!!
Ha,ha…that’s cool. The deer is bigger than him. CONGRATS!!

thanks guys. i did save the shell. i’m going to have the hide tanned on this one for the kid, since he’s got no rack to save.
Two thumbs up for the kid and yall
and good on you LC!
pics of kids are my favorite post. My son is 33 and is hunting with me tomorrow. I will feel the same as if he were ten and shoots a deer. It is always my hope when we hunt together that he gets one.
Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.
Just reread your post LC and saw the “GIVE” capitalized. No thanks. Really appreciate the offer LC, mighty kind of you. Pretty cool stuff you do there.
Good times and memories made that won’t ever be forgotten… Congratulations to both of you!!

You are welcome! As some of the others have said , Its the kids smiles that make it all worth while . I still remember when both my son and daughter shot their 1st deer , and don’t know who had more Buck Fever before the shot . Both did their jobs and dropped in tracks . My daughter still to this day hunts more than her brother and will go when ever she is not busy. Off to college next season , kinda not looking to lose my hunt partner. Thanks for enjoying some of my work, was inspired by making Trophies for kids of friends and family.
