sorry to be a hog, but Wabaw creek

We put in at 7am hwy45, wabaw swamp/ creek. The first 2+ miles were hell, every 20ft another tree to cross. To make matters worse many cottonmouths in our path. We got disoriented more than once, and personally wanted to turn back many times considering…no snake boots. Busted my butt, carried the yak, learned how to jump on the yak, cussed the yak! Finally the creek opened up and I felt much better. Pulled out in the forest and visited Hampton plantation. Tough trip, glad I did it, will never do it again!

Okay… I’m no snake expert…maybe mocasins… definetely mean poisous snakes!

My farm is off of 45 near Honey Hill. If you actually put your kayak in at the 45 bridge and paddled up Wambaw creek at that point as you now know that was a mistake. There are two landings in the forest in Waterhorn on the Chas.Co. side of Wambaw Creek. Follow the forest service road towards the Elmwood ranger station/campground and you will see the signs. It is an excellent trip from one of those two locations. Wambaw Creek swamp is well known for it’s large cottonmouth population. Glad you got out o.k.
