Southern chilly weather comfort food

oyster stew/15 minutes

what you will need.

shucked oysters in juice
butter
green onions(white and green part sliced thinly)
celery( small amount sliced thinly)
milk or half and half…or can mix
pepper( white or black)
cayenne pepper(pinch)

place butter in pan with onion and celery quanity to your taste
saute slightly…

add in black or white pepper/ and cayene pepper…(just a pinch)

add in oysters and allow to heat slightly…pour in milk and simmer…do not allow to boil!

remove when edges of oyster start to curl slightly and oysters appear firm

serve with crackers

Saltines are my favorite but was out of them:(

oops…showing paprika but caught my mistake and switched to the cayene:)

Penfishn, I appreciate the recipe. I had about 100 pounds left over from an oyster roast so I shucked and froze them in their juice. Approxametly how much milk are you using for that batch right there?

Penny…that looks REALLY good…I cook that all the time but, I have never put the green onions and celery in it…I’ll have to give it a try…

I added a can of cream of mushroom and some sherry, thickened it up if you like mushrooms and the taste of sherry. Will try the ketchup thing though or maybe a little condensed tomato soup. Have a great recipe for Shrimp Bisque. 1 can cream of mush, 1 can tomato bisque condensed soup, one can of water, one can of half and half/whole milk, raw cut up shrimp that cook in the soup, sherry, and pepper. Thanks penfishn for the recipe that began this thread. Maybe if i get the time, I will post that one with pics and directions like penfishn so masterfully does :slight_smile:

penny; it all looks great but i just want to know where in the world did you get those shoe horn oysters.? also; if you hear of any shrimp 16-25 count; i need about 150lbs. did not get to go and ms. joanne told me yesterday that they did not have any. thanks and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Bilo…7.99…large container…they were yummy too…not as good or special as my daddys …but 2nd place for sure…had some more in gravy monday…mmmm
