Counter,
I tried for them yesterday at the nearshore reef using jelly balls that I tethered to the back of my boat. I’ve never caught them that shallow before. The only ones I’ve caught were always at the Charleston 60. I never saw a school surface for them while I was out yesterday. The water was pretty clean with good visibly so if they were there I would’ve seen them. I’m curious if anyone has caught them in 30 feet before also. Seems a bit shallow for them but I tried anyways while I was there.

yeah, i usually catch them in the 4KI area. 23 foot boat is great if the water is glass but it seems lately when i go out is too rough to make Charleston 60

We’ve caught them at the 4KI as well last summer. They were buzzing all over.

Juveniles can be found in the harbor, but the big ones are at Capers, 4KI, & the 60. Jelly balls were very thick last week in front of the beaches. The calmer the water, the more they will rise in the water column.

I have caught them in 30 ft of water. About 3 miles from the beach. Fished a tug boat and dropped my jelly balls with a weight and a rope. Used a metal clothes hanger to stick through them. Dropped them to the bottom, let them sit as we cut up some jelly fish for bait. Slowly pulled them up and could feel the spades busting in and out of the jelly balls. Got the rig 15 feet from the bottom of the boat and started fishing. They were swimming in a circle around my boat. Probably 75-100 of them.

And he said to them, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19
