Spadefish?

When approx do the spadefish become fishable? Pretty soon right?

usually late May, beginning of June is when you start to see the.

They don’t go anywhere. We took the pic below on the Y-73 on Friday. I saw them eating small lemon sized jellyfish so if you can drop one down right onto the wreck about 85’ down you may have luck. They were so thick on the surface over the wreck you could dip net them. For us, spear guns proved effective.

The Carolina Sportsman Magazine said around the first of May. With the water temps…maybe by the second week.

Sorry I wasn’t clear enough. The jellyfish that they liked to eat were very thick at the surface but the Spade fish stayed about 70 to 85 feet down RIGHT on the wreck.

Mid 60s at the surface, 57 at the bottom. Watch out for the stinging jellies. It would probably be a good idea to wear a full hood.

Now tell them how BIG those on the bottom are.

You have got to remember who the captain in that article in South Carolina Sportsmen was written about.

Take everything with a grain of salt.

Saw a good many jelly balls at the jetties this weekend. Hopefully the spades aren’t far behind.

Everyone is destined for greatness…the rest is up to you.

jelly balls were around the N. Edisto nearshore reef last weekend too…
