We were in the LCA tourney but were focused on bcb; not a single keeper all day from the near shore reef; maybe we shoulda tried for spades instead

Fished LCA too, did get one BSB 13" to weigh in, but not big enough. Went to 4KI, no jelly balls in the morning, and no visible spades, too rough Sat for them to stay up.

Been to the Edisto 60 a couple times and that reef is full of spades. They were acting a little skiddish, but we loaded up the cooler just the same. Caught some nice 15-16" bsb’s too. Last time out I lost about a 40# cobia righht at the boat after a long fight. About 1/4 mi. out ran into a field of jellies, but we already picked up 9 in the inlet, so thought that was enough. Came back with 2 left. Never seen so many jellies out there.

We caught them on memorial weekend at 4KI over the 437 foot ship

Thick around my waters (MI)…tried my hand at bowfishing for them. The second time I pulled back the arrow, SUCCESS! Ill chalk it up to beginners luck.
Tight lines,

If no jelly
balls, just use little pieces of shrimp

Ive anchored on the Edisto 60 myself and visibility was clear a good ways down. there was a nice school of spade fish that would circle around 10-15 feet below our boat, but very nervous when you dropped bait to them. I finally just tied a hook on with a piece of squid and let it drift into the school. Once it got in the middle of the school, one would bite. ended up catching quite a few like this.

Nice job Painkiller…Thought about doing the same thing myself.
We had a hard time hooking up until I piled the jelly on the hook (about a fist size chunk). With just a small slice on the hook they wouldn’t touch it. Wouldn’t touch my shrimp either. I’m thinking they are so full of eating jellies it’s affecting the bite. Talked to a guy today who trawls a net for brown shrimp and he says his net is loaded with those Cannonball jellies every pull. I agree…I’ve never seen so many!
