anybody seeing many jellyballs?
I was looking for them on sunday on the way out to troll for kings, but never saw any on the way out or at the nearshore reef, so I gave up the search and continued on to the fishing spots.

stank. do you mean the edisto bouy? does anyone eat spades? was told they don’t make for good table fare. r8 is where we fish for them. bring a wire coat hanger and put a few jelly balls on it and set it behind the boat. spades will usually stay right behind the boat for easy pickings. friend caught one last year that just missed the trident. serously strong fish.
Spades are good to eat. I’ve had them fried and grilled. They are the best fresh, I do not freeze them. Go gettum.

Went out yesterday to try for them as planned but could not find a single jelly ball. Tried all around the jetties and out to 2 miles past the nearshore. Even pulled up behind a shrimp trawler pulling in his nets. NOTHING!! Will try again in a couple weeks.

I’ve seen them at Charleston 60, R8, 4KI and Edisto 40. Take your pick. The challenge is trying to find Jellyballs.
I’ve caught 'em on pieces of fresh shrimp. They’re not as good as jelly balls and a heckuva lot more expensive, but on occasion spades will eat shrimp…and I’d rather use shrimp than not go.

When I would go surf fishing out at folly before I got the boat I would stop at Crosby’s on Folly and buy some shrimp from there bait freezer and I noticed that they would have frozen jellyballs for sale. I haven’t been by there in a long time, so i dont know if they still have them there.
