Good day

Good day

Nice. Looks like a busy day.
I agree,
.
Yes it kept us busy. But a lot of fun
what did you get them on? I had a school around the boat a little while back and they wouldn’t take shrimp or squid?
Shrimp
quote:Aquasport...got a tip for ya. Next time try covering the black hook and knot with that shrimp. Those spades can be very tackle shy. Fished beside a guy that was catching one after the other using shrimp and we couldn't get one to bite the first time I tried for them. Read this on the net and went back to the same spot...fish on in 30 seconds, full cooler in no time. Makes a difference.

I think it must be in the way you are freezing them.
I always either vacuum seal or use chilled fresh water to replace the air in a ziploc bag. I’ve had spades that were frozen for a year and they tasted great. No freezer burn, no quare taste, just plain delicious.

I want to go, but won’t take my 17’ Whaler out there… have experience.
bqf I take mt 17 seahunt out to the R8 all the time. just can’t seem to find the spades.

What hook is best? A bait holder J style? Mosquito? Circle? Octopus? What size: 1/0? - I’ve taken several on a speargun but not hook and line. They are tasty and do freeze well in a water filled ziplock per the above post
I normally use a black #4, or #6 circle. If you use a silver hook you may not get a bite unless it is covered very well. I also use a 20# flouro leader about 4-6’ long with a couple split shot weights at least 24" above the hook. You need a medium rod/reel too. If you go light be ready to lose a bunch of line and probably get broke off on structure, or anchor line.
