Spaniards? Anyone .... Spaniards?

Hey Guys, just wondering about the Spanish Mackerel. Anyone seen hide or hair of the Spanish lately? Very little noise regarding this topic that I can see on the site. Have they come and gone already?

I live inland and want to come down and search a few out but don’t see anyone with any reports … Thanks for any pointers!

There’s plenty.

Olde Man Charters

I Caught a pretty little one right outside the jetties a few weeks ago.

They are all over the jetties, inlets, and along the shoreline. Throw shiny and profit lately. Small but plentiful

I went out yesterday and saw tons of them outside the tip of the south jetty. I was bump trolling big menhaden in 25 to 30 feet of water for kings. I’m sure I could’ve caught caught a few if I targeted them.

Did you find any kings?

Not a single one. I caught one a few weeks ago in 50 feet but thought I’d try closer especially with all the bird activity I saw yesterday. I did see one jump about 6 feet out of the water going after something in one of those schools. I know I was in the right place but couldn’t get any to bite.

Have you tried any larger drone sppons? When see decent feeding activity and get no takers on drifting bait always noticed they were more likely hit the artificials. Try a drone with a hook flash assist on hook, it is like crack for mackerel.

And pull it real fast. They want it moving fast. 10 kts is not too fast.

Thanks for the info on the Spanish, really appreciate it ! Might even try some of that King advice! Thanks again, fellas!

I had two Rapala magnums out and two live baits. No takers on either other than sharpnose on the menhaden. Should’ve hauled butt with the drones and magnums I suppose.

ya if not running at least 5-7 mackerel just ignore artificial. Hard to run both bait and artificial together b/c this.
