Anybody been out fishing spanish lately? Just curious as to if they are in the harbor or near the jetties still. Thinking about going tomorrow evening before I hit the topwater bite before dark. New to this so I’m not even sure if this is the right time to go.
Big schools of Spanish have been feeding on glass minnows in the shipping channel. A small hopkins spoon with a straight and fast retrieve will keep you in the action.
They’re good eating, IMO - - just filet them and put them on the grill skin side down on foil; only need butter and lemon on them. Then pick them up with a spatula, leaving the skin on the foil. Cook them within hours after you catch them and they are great. Any later, well, then you have some good redfish bait.
