Spanish

smoked the Spanish this morning. from ramp to ramp, less than 2 hours and a limit of nice fish.

We did pretty well on bull reds near the jetties but I’ve never been able to catch Spanish or Kings. How do you do it? I’d really like to learn how to catch them. Do you mind sharing your methods and maybe a location or two? I’m happy to share all of my bull red fishing tactics and locations if you want to trade???

We’re here because were not all there.

It might be better if we e-mailed these details. My e-mail address is: berniezee918@yahoo.com

Spanish=#00 clarkspoons on a wire or flouro leader that’s aroud 4’ long trolled at 4.5-5 mph and you start at the jetties and go find them. From June to Oct, they are usually on the beach. Look for birds and bait. In deeper water, add a planer and watch your machine for fish. You can use flounder or any inshore rods for just trolling spoons, but you need a little more beef if you are pulling planers. Any stricture or live bottom will work if they are there.
Kings=Pogies or bluefish or pinfish or blue runners or bigger mullet trolled at just in gear over anywhere at the Jungle, Shark Hole, Christina Ledge, MB Rocks, Live bottom and all those sorts of places. Kings are on the beach during the fall mullet and spot run as well. I think they are about gone now. You can also pull drone spoons at higher speeds, but only smaller kings usually bite those.
Hope that helps!

Just what Goozeman said. The only thing I would add is to lengthen your leader to 25 or 30 ft when pulling spoons behind a planer. I use 30# fluorocarbon.
