can somebody tell me when does bass first start to spawn? when is the best time to fish for them during the spawn?
they spawn heavily around the full moon phase in the spring. i have caught bedding bass from jan till june. many of the biggest spawn in feb. most numbers in march and april.

Fish have already started to spawn in the lakes with Mid-March through April being the peak…Fish in the Cooper River are usually a month or so behind…Local ponds will have fish starting in mid-Feb. through first of April…Focus on the new and full moon

Next full moon it will be on
give it a a little more time guys, bass spawn in 65 degree water with maybe a few males moving to make beds at 60 to 63, crappie however are prolly hitting it here soon. these past three nights of 20s pushed the bass back into deeper water, give em a few weeks of good warming, we have had a cold winter
2 weeks ago backwater ponds in Moultrie had some fish doing the dirty dance…seeing is believing:smiley:

Those were the retarted fish. What you saw were fish just crusin’. The spawn on Moultrie won’t be on until the end or the month. Try between the new moon around the 27th and the full moon around April 10. Water temps need to get way up. They are still in the upper 50’s.

i have fished those lakes most of my life and there are ALWAYS good bedding bass in feb.the temp difference between the black water ponds and the main lake can be very significant.

August is best…
local pond spawning and lake spawning are very very different things, in local ponds they have no deep water to run to, they pull the trigger much earlier, but lots more fry die due to too cold of temperatures and when they are the only minners swimming around, although i will say ive seen some big ones, may be they are retarded, spawning too early
the ponds are connected to the lake

Dang Hardcore…We can’t get away from you!!!
Excuses? I’ve heard them all!
I was in Marion yesterday looking for spawning bass. Water temp was 60 degrees in the backwater ponds, but we couldnt find any spawning bass on beds. I think we were just a few days early. I hope to be back out there next week, because if the weather stays decent it should be on.

I’ll bet they are on em now. Saw plenty cruisin this weekend and the water temp Sunday midday was 64 deg in the cove. Saw a male and a female with their spot picked out but they weren’t guarding it yet.
i love sight fishing! i look forward to the bass spawning every spring. i went to jacks creek on lake marion today. there were 9 boats fishing in our club tournament. a total of 3 fish were caught by 18 anglers. i aint seen a fish! not one bed NOTHINNG. just thought i’d let yall know. water temp was 58-63.

it was stained in most places, clear in the sub-impoundment. beautiful weather but no fish. i spent the entire day in shallow water looking for fish. some of the people banged cypress trees with worms, jig and spinnerbaits to no avail. the only fish caught (3) were caught in the sub-impoundment.
