What a beautiful day on the ocean. We fished and dove in 100 feet. The hook and line was slow but we believed that we were over fish. We dove down on live bottom and you would not believe the wild life on the bottom. There were grouper, snapper, BSB, ARS every where. The water was a light blue, vis was about 40 feet, water temp was 67. We shot 11 grouper, 5 spades. Alex shot a grouper and was finishing it off when a 25lb plus ARS came by and he shot it. The ARS ran under a rock and out comes a 10lb plus lobster. He grabs the lobster and head for the surface, leaving the ARS attached to his spear gun. Zach is offered the deal if he returns the gun he can have the ARS. The moral of the story is when the fish are not biting you have to drop down to the bottom and bring them up.
Sounds like ya’ll got on them, it is definately nice to have the option to drop down and see whats really on the bottom.

It was a great day for fishing and diving. Sorry for those who missed it!!! I am glad you could join us for a beautiful day. I didn’t get to give you the report on the last dive, but here it goes!! I dropped down to the bottom (109 ft.), in search of a holed-up massive ARS ( which turned out to be 21 LBS.) attached to a 48" AB Biller speargun. With my gun locked and loaded, I WAS ON A MISSION, passing up numerous shootable ARS and GROUPER, I was determined to recover the lost gun. The ARS would be a bonus. With blind luck I spotted the gun. It was lodged outside the hole that the ARS went into and the big bug evacuated. Neither escaped in the end. I finished the ARS with a well placed spear and sent him and the speargun to the surface with a lift bag. ( I am sure all were happy when they pulled it into the boat). As soon as I got myself situated, I looked down to see the outline of a 4.5 lbs flounder in the sand. Didn’t have to fire the speargun, just a simple jab (imagime gigging in 109’) and the flounder was quickly on the stringer. About half my bottom time had elapsed, so I was determined to finish the dive with at least the catch from the first dive(3 nice scamps). To my suprise, the next thing I come across is the anchor and 15’ of chain(plus 100’ of rope) that me and Sells had to let loose nearly 2 months ago. It was hung so tight that we made the decision to maybe recover it later!! We didn’t want to end up like the Florida NFL boys. Spent the rest of the dive coiling the rope after untangling it from the beautiful, coral infested bottom, and started my slow ascent too the surface. Interesting ascent, but you would have to be a diver to appreciate.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Good job, Greg; can’t wait to get back out with you guys again. This is Don, after 50 years on the big pond, you just taught me a good lesson. I just made a reply to another post saying “conservaztion or dessimation”, looks like I was wrong; the big pond must be like the small pond, plenty fish, just too smart to take our constant bombardment of hook and line. That’s good news, now we must sharpen our tactics, and our hooks. ha!!!

That’s amazing!! How do you find spots like that? I guess just years of experience, huh?

Awesome day and a slob lobster!

We also did the same on Sunday however, we were lucky enough to catch Most of our Fish on Rod and Reel.
5 ARS 10# ers
1 Trigger
10 BSB largest 4#s (biggest BSB I’ve ever caught)
Then we dove 100’
7-Lobster Largest 10.4#s
1-Slipper Lobster (not very big)
2-Hog Nose 6#s ea.
When the Divers came up they said the area was LOADED with ARS’s but they didn’t shoot any—they were consintrating on Hogs and Spinny’s.
The Ocean was alive on Sunday–saw some Sun Fish Jumping, couple of Leather Back Turtles, lot of Birds, lot of Bait.
Good Luck Everyone—Zig-Zag
PS. Forgot to add–the divers had a 300-400# Sand Tiger hanging around them and following them. One of the guys finally poked him with the gun right behind his nose–he took off and didn’t return. They said he was about an 8 footer.
great report
