Before the second bush admin they would even give you a tow if needed.

The ‘second bush admin’? Actually, Congress directed a review of response policy in 1982, the policy was actually changed by Executive Order in 1985. Seems it was decided USCG should respond to emergencies only (like this one), and service calls should be handled on the water as they are on the open road - call a tow service. I call it a needed shift toward making folks responsible for themselves, something needed then and even more so today … :wink:
