What a special trip!
My Grandparents finally decided to make a trip over to SC and instead of staying upstate with my parents they opted to stay in Charleston instead! We set up a bottom fishing trip on the T-Star and struck out Saturday AM headed for the ledge. This was the first time I had ever fished offshore with my dad or my Granddad and neither of them have been offshore in many many years.
We were greeted at the jetties by a 2-4 foot sea and I was a bit hesitant about how well my 87 year old Granddad would do when anchored up. 2.5 hours later I found out.
My Granddad did excellent! The seas calmed down out deep and me, my dad, and gramps were able to spend a wonderful day catching fish. It was pretty humorous watching the old WWII vet fight a 30lb AJ.
As far as catch goes it was not a stellar day by a lot of people but we had a grand time enjoying each others company. We ended up with 2 scamp with one being around 10-15lbs (Dad won the big fish pot with it) a king, a few beeliners, a false albie, some donkeys, and a couple almaco jacks.
The guys on the T-Star treated us exceptionally well, our mate was a high school kid named Travis that just plain liked to be on the water. He took good care of us and in turn we took care of him at the days end.
Hope to do it again.
Thanks to PurposeOne and Phin for the gear and hints. Purposeone is actually a pretty standup guy.
we’re only gonna die from our own arrogence. so we might as well take our time.

didn’t take any this trip! Took a 1/2 pill of nondrowsy dramamine night before and 1/2 a pill next AM right when I woke up…fine all day.
That was a hefty beeliner…saw a bunch more come over the rail…had I been using a chicken rig I’d have cut loose on em.. Stuck w/ the grooopah rig all day just to make sure I was better at the chicken rig…now I’m convinced until shown otherwise:stuck_out_tongue:

If youre concerned about nausea there is a super drug out there that will take care of you. Its been a very expensive drug until the past few months when it went multi-source generic. ZOFRAN, is the branded name of the drug. Ask your doctor about this high powered anti nausea drug that is still prescription only but since price has dropped your insurance might just cover it. If not cash prob isn’t too bad either.
Awesome… Stories like this always bring a smile to my face. I love it when the younger generation “pays back” the older guys by taking them fishing or hunting. You will never forget it… and neither will they. Great job!!!

Stretch, my puter should be back up and running at work tomorrow, but to cut it short our dove field has all but died up here. No rain since the week it was planted. Dday isnt looking good up this way. Wing shooting might change to fin fishing that weekend.
That had to be a great experience, Stretch! Glad ya’ll got to spend that time together. I never knew either grandfather and dad died in 1971 a few weeks b4 his 65th b/d. I was in the Army for most of his retirement years. However I fonly remember the fishing trips b4 he retired and a few after. I hope ya’ll get do that again. Those WWll fellows are tough!!
Cool! Maybe we should get a group together on the T-star for a one day one vessel tournament! Its a great time as long as seas are below 4 ft. Congrats on being able to get together with the Fam and being successful!
Bro that’s awsoe your grandpa and dad came in to town and you granpa handled it like a champ. I guess what are we to expect from someone who fought in a war like WWII. He probably can still kick our asses. Congrats on good outing with the fam and hope to see you out on the water soon.
Good times!
