Anyone know of anyplace to catch Speckled Trout from a pier or shore for someone like me without a boat?
Have not been there in years, but I have caught hundreds from the Church Creek Bridge connecting John’s Island and Wadmalaw on Maybank Highyway
Wooddog, I don’t know where you are located, but the extreme end of the Hunting Island Lagoon used to be a cold weather “hotspot” years ago. Mirrorlures cast from the bank & retrieved very slowly were deadly. I too have not been there in years. It’s a long ride out there.

The Beaufort side of Whale Branch bridge and a few years ago I watched a gentle man catch a nice mess of trout at Bulow Landing by Red Top. Not much room there at high tide. It was dead low and he was fishing to the left of the boat landing facing the water. Good Luck!
Years ago, I saw a young kid catching trout on every cast off the bank at an old landing that used to be on the Northwest side of the Johnson Creek bridge. He was using a jig/smoky grub. Seems like it was late Fall. I think there used to be a small fishing pier on the Northeast side. I don’t know if it is still there. You might find some trout on the bottom under the bridge if you can find a place to park nearby.
I’ve never tried it, and access might be difficult, but the extreme Northern point of Hunting Island where Johnson Creek dumps into the surf might be A+!

Crosby’s Seafood near Folly Beach - fish their pier, seen many trout caught there along with reds and flounder.
