Speedometer

I have a 1720 Key West w/90 Yamaha with the speed pickup in the foot that quit working. The gauge is operational and I traced the problem to the pickup at the foot. It is blocked. I have tried to blow backwards with an air compressor at 120 psi with no luck. I have also tried using a thin piece of wire at the pickup with no luck. It’s not a critical item, I just don’t like having a gauge that doesn’t work. I could install a new pickup, just hate to drill holes in the transom. Ideas?

I have used a small drill bit. Put it in and turn it with your hand. Has worked twice for me.
Good luck.

Look up a schematic of your lower unit… I know on my yamaha F150 the pickup as you call it or pitot has a 90 degree turn upwards about an inch inside the foot. I thought mine wad clogged also until I checked the schematic. Mines still not working I will check other possibilities the next time I have my lower unit pulled for a pump kit replacement.
