Poured my own lead spider weights tonight. Turned out pretty well. 1-3lb spiders.
Nice I need to start making my own because the big ones are expensive.
What do you use those for?
Known more commonly as “sputniks.” Use for surf fishing.
Also can be used for trolley weights for a trolley line/live bait fishing off an ocean fishing pier. Those are some big ones…

Yeah ive used small sputniks for surf fishing, but you could almost use that as a reef anchor. Never seen them that big before .
That’s what you have to have to hold those 20-30 lb baits down in the currents around here
What kind of rod do you cast 3# of lead and 30# bait with?
Don’t cast it. 14/0 senator and 80-130 harnell rod, 200lb braid to 200lb mono. Kayak the bait out.
Those big spider weights gave me a work out this weekend. Fully harnessed drag locked holding the spool doing squats and then some to get them over the ledge. My bait couldn’t budge it and neither could a tipper. Doa, the hardest reel up iv ever had to do between the weight and the tipper getting stuck in the ledge. Wouldn’t you know my next drop I hook a beast and just start to heave him over the ledge and knot failure. All the pressure before and it was fine but with the big shark I got knot failure. My shark fishing luck has been down lately. Sure catch has good deals on the strongest weights I’ve used. Get a 32 and let your buddy reel it in thinking its a fish.
Don’t know what kind of reel you are using but reeling inthese aren’t that bad and didn’t affect a single pickup this weekend
