spinning reel opinions

Having been offshore fishing most of the last 10 years im ready to get back into the inshore thing again. My trusty old shakespeare and penn spinning reels i had forever are in need of replacement. so my question is what are some of yalls favorite reels being produced. I dont mind spending a hundred or so dollars but not interested in really expensive IE penn torque or van staal although they may be worth it.

Penn battle (100$) peen fierce ($80)
Shimano teremar ($100) or shimano Sahara ($80).
Pair on matching line class: Shimano, Star, St. Croix or other

I just upgraded to the Battle 3000. Get it. It’s awesome.

All fishermen are liers except me and you and I’m not sure about you.

Battles are good even the Penn Spinfisher V both reasonably priced.

90 Yamaha 4 stroke

Shimano Stradic

All of the above and, I would look at the Okuma Trio. I go one on the recommendation of a fellow CFer and really like it. I have the 30S.

How about the Penn Pursuit? I bought one today to try out.

The Pursuit is a good, intro reel. It has more graphite while the other Penns have aluminum.

Bowtech Allegiance
Ruger M77 .270

I have had a bunch of Stradic 2500s and in the past year have changed out most of my reels to Penn Battle 3000s. They are a lil heavier but at the end of the day I can sleep easy if I only rinse off my rod after fishing. They are sealed so water cant get in. My stradics all had corrosion problems and thats just me being lazy but at the end of the day… I like being able to be lazy. my .02

Just bought a Penn Battle 4000 and Penn Fierce 4000. Most of my reels though are 5000 or 5 series for inshore fishing. I like the larger size for more versatility. Even use larger than that for inshore. No such thing as overkill IMO.

I have a few different Shimanos (symetre and others). They’re great although my symetre has a problem. I will send it in for service after my labor day trip to FL.

I also have an Okuma Epixor and it is equal to or better than the Shimano’s. Seems to stand up better over the years. It’s one of my oldest and never had any problems with it.

I have the Spinfisher SSV series from 3500-7500 and have been very impressed so far. To me, they feel sturdier than all of the battles I’ve had in years past. Plus, there doesn’t seen to be as much extra pieces and panels and stuff just for looks as there are on many other reels. The extra stuff may look fancy but I find that those seems and different finishes are where the cosmetic problems stem from.

I’d recommend them. You get what you pay for.

Penn Spinfisher V series gets my vote. For the price, they simply can’t be beat.
