Spinning reel

I am looking at spinning reels capable of jigging and live bait fishing offshore here. I looked at the daiwa saltist 6500 and shimano stratic FJ 8000. How do these reels compare to eachother and what other reels are out there that I should also consider. Also when looking at jigging spinning reels what should I look for? Is there to fast of a retrieve or to slow and what size reel? What rod would fit with the reel you recommend.

I used some diawah stuff a few years ago, wouldnt use it now if it was free, Didnt last 1 yr,Changed to shimano and on yr 3 now and it still works fine.

Shimano Saragossa 6000 or Quantum Boca 60 would be my choice. Shimano Spheros a little slower, but a cheaper option than the Saragossa. I’ve yet to get spooled with a 60 or 6000 series from a king or shark, and even the ledge is only 200’ or so.

I’ve been using a Quantum Cabo 80 for about a year. Love it for grouper and cobia. No issues so far. Also have a couple of large Shimano Baitrunners that have been in use for several years without any problems.

I stripped the gears on a Stradic 8000, but have not been able to hurt the Spheros 18000FB (got 3 of them on trevalas)and have fished them for a couple of years. The Saragossa is also an indestructible reel.

Sad to hear that the Spheros FB is being discontinued and “upgraded”. Guess I’ll have to stash a few away for the future.

I’ve got a new Saragossa 8000sw. It’s great, and will serve you better offshore than the Stradic for a few simple reasons, the biggest being that it doesn’t have as many things that can go wrong with it. It doesn’t have an anti-reverse switch, and you have to manually flip the bail. The outer body is sealed up and is pretty much (if not completely) waterproof.
I researched most of the options out there (I’m primarily a Penn and Shimano guy), and the Gosa 8000sw was the best bang for the buck for jigging, bottom work, and live bait option for fishing out of Charleston.
This is my opinion, but I’m still loving the Gosa 8000sw. I’ve got a Gosa 10000sw on the way…

Thanks for all the help. I think I will be going with a Saragosa 8000sw. What rod would best match this reel?
