Squirrel got in the bilge of my boat and ate wiring. Started the repairs and discovered it ate thru the transducer cable. I have enough slack to make the splice, figured on soldering the 3 wires back but it looks like they are shielded with a foil wrapper. Anyone had any luck repairing a transducer cable?
Thanks
fmb3::: done it before; insulate 3 wires well, Strip outer insulation carefully back past foil ;;wrap all 3 with strip of alum.
foil overlapping foil on each end;; tape tightly then coat with
liquid tape, let dry, coat again!!

Gail wins is spot on…have done the exact same repair after a muskrat had desert…process will repair it like new… it is just a pain working with the “hair thin” wires.

Then, do what I do, start giving all the squirrels a .177 cal treat when you see them!!. They chewed up the wires under my 4-wheeler seat, chewed wires up under the hood of my $50,000 truck!! Now, they all die!!

Squirrels can be a pain if uncontrolled. I caught 5 in two days in a live trap baited with peanut butter.

fmb3, I don’t envy you trying to slice that ducer cable down in the bilge! I’m thinking you are laying on your stomach reaching through a hatch to get to it! That’s a job for one of those Small Headed, Long Armed, Ambidextrous Midget, with good eye sight! Might be easier to run a new cable!

Thanks, this is a humminbird cable, Ive stripped it back, it has a red and black wire with a foil sheath and a bare wire wrapped around that. I’m thinking solder and heat shrink the red and the black, wrap them in the foil then solder the bare wire together and heat shrink it all? I build my own game cams, hacking digital cameras so small wire soldering isnt an issue. Fortunately I have enough cable left I can get it out of the bilge for the soldering, but the speaker wires, power for the radio and front nav lights require layin on one side and reaching under the console. Now I have to check the trolling motor wiring, I hope he didnt eat the insulation off that one too . . .and yeah, he’s signed his death warrant for sure.
