It will not work like before. You need to buy a new one. They are on ebay all the time for decent deals. Just make sure it has the correct connector to hook up to your sounder. They are all made by Airmar, just have different connectors.

You absolutely CAN connect transducer wires, but not with splicing. The best method is to solder each small wire and protect each soldered connection with heatshrink tubing. You must also pay attention to the shielding, and re-shield the proper wires from each other, preferably soldering the shielding back together, though this gets tricky.

I’d replace with a new one. Use the old wire to pull the new one to the head unit and you shouldn’t have any problem.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

worth a try to save some money. you’ll know if you need a new one. interference will tell you when you turn crank up your outboard. did for me at least.

+1, I’ve done it before with success. Solder and seal each wire with adhesive lined heat shrink. Then seal the entire area with a larger piece of heat shrink.

You CAN SPLICE transducer cables, and it will preform just as before.
You just have to know how and where to make the splice.

+2 Solder, heat shrink, re do the shielding the best you can, a big piece of heat shrink over the whole union.

BUT since you have to buy a new one anyway, can’t you just use the old wire to pull the new one up to the unit?

Airmar sells a splicer box that’s made for splicing ducer cables. Or, you could use the sealed 3M connectors, or solder with butt connectors and adhesive-lined heatshrink (like Hairball said). It should work fine, despite the common concerns. Connect the two cut ends of shielding mesh (unless it’s just foil) with a wire jumper, so it can still function as a drain.

Thats right. Its called a break-out box. Same thing I use to splice fiber-optics with.

210 Scout I am glad you asked this…I just lost my FF transducer yesterday. Put the boat on the trailer and when I went around to pull plug out the wire was just dangling. I dont know how that happened but…I guess I will just buy a knew one also

+3 on the soldering.

Happens all the time. Heat shrink each invidual connections then heat shrink the whole thing. Make sure the connection is not under bilge water.

I soldered mine once and it worked just as good as before. I only had the boat for a year or so though, so I don’t know how it did long term.
