Split Decision Fry the 13th cory, wahoo & grouper

I was going to take it easy this weekend, but I got recruited into a fun day today on Split Decision with Pallet and some other buddies. I was able to put my scamp and dolphin slinging skills to use indeed today. Apparently, some trash had been talked by a certain “chunky dunk” as well as a “scootin4baits.” That made today slightly more enjoyable, I must say.

We left the G-town rocks around 4:30AM and had lines in around or slightly before 7. That 30’ prowler cat flirted with 40kts on the way out, and it was a fine ride. We got two dolphin in the box pretty quick and then a wahoo. We kept picking at the dolphin in the same area in scattered weeds and some small breaks that really never came together into anything big. Most of the action was just offshore of the scarp.

We got tired of the dolphin around 12 and we went and found a good many pieces of new-to-us bottom. When I say new to us, I mean that I didn’t have numbers and I went looking for it and found it by using a pretty nice fish finder. :sunglasses:.

After some effort we got anchored over the fish properly on the 3rd little piece I found, and we put 6 scamp and about 2 dozen b-liners in the boat along with a basket or so full of other bottom dwellers. I think we kept 5 scamp as one was just a little short.

We ended with

13 dolphin (biggest in the 20’s)
1 wahoo (about 20#s)
1 king (not including a jort-soiler day-maker we lost at the boat due to thinking it was a cuda and not reelly being ready with the gaff- my fault).
5 scamp
couple dozen b liners
limit of pinks
dozen triggers
etc.

Had an awesome time Pallet! I know chunky will be at your house Sunday for the trolling clinic. Hope everybody made it home good tonight!

Uh, Phin, glad you used my and Chunky’s advise on bait, our direction on where to go, and chunky’s trolling setup that he left on the boat during the tailwalker. Good on you and Pallet. I am sure Helen Keller could have done that with the Pro-tips we left you. Be glad the ole All Rise was in the stable today. You would have come back to the hill with your tale between your legs.:smiley:

I will give you credit on the bottom fishing, good job. Still puzzled how you catch more bottom fish out of GT than Chas. Home field does not favor well with you.

Just messing with you. Good job! Going to need some of your mad bottom machine skills and numbers so I can bring home the lobster and hogs next week. My wife and little one love em.

I heard that Chunky Dunk was going out this past Sunday to proove once and for all that he is the greatest fisherman in Clarendon county. Did I overlook his report somehow ?
