Ya know, it must be nice living in Neverneverland. Remind me to come visit you, when I need a break from reality.

Small gold spoon tipped with a mud minnow is deadly on Reds.

Can’t go wrong with either color. Tried a gold with red reflective patch on it Sat. at a little pond on one of the islands…it worked…I know pond fishing doesn’t count but still, they work.

Stump, did you have minnows on your spoon or nothing? Just a fast retrieve?

No minnows or trailer of any kind. This spoon had 2 weedless barbs though. Steady retrieve, not fast and not slow. All three bites that morning happened in the first 5ft of retrieve as well, FWIW.

I’ve read a bunch of posts on a variety of forums regarding spoons. I have several in my box but have never really thrown them. People swear they work but I guess my curiosity comes in as to where you guys are working spoons? Do you throw them up in the grass on high tide when you see movement/tailing reds? Or do you just work them around structure when the current is moving?

Yessir, indeed. Check out Aqua Dream spoons. Got hooked on these years back by a friend down in Titusville, FL. I pretty much use the gold and then the black and chartreuse spoons they make. Quality lures! IF THERE WAS ONLY ONE LURE I COULD USE, IT WOULD BE A SPOON!!!

I was wondering about when to try a spoon too. Tried a Cajun Thunder spoon the other day without any luck. It was high slack tide and I paddled over some flooded gras and casted where it wasn’t too thick. Sound like a decent strategy?

Throw them into the grass when the water is moving out. I saw a friend catch a 24" flounder on one. I fished a redfish tx, and you really find out how well you can do on artificials when thats all you can use.

I fish it on a steady retrieve and it catches trout and reds.

God bless the “ignore” function.

They are deadly when I walk the flats. Its my go to if I haven’t got one wading in a while. Funny, I have never even tried fishing it any other place, just wading the flats. Sometimes with a mullet on the end to make it extra tasty.
