i’ve been thinking of exploring the jetties. ive only been out there once before in a 23ft bay boat and it wasn’t enjoyable, captain said it was just a bad day. i have also seen john boats coming back in and youtube videos that look like glass, so i don’t know what to think.
what advice can you give me before i take my scout 177 out past Ft Sumter?
No problem with that boat, as long as it’s not blowing like the dickens. And just as you pass Sumter, there’s a bit of a hump which causes a rough spot. Move through it slowly if it’s rough, bu once you’re in the channel between the jetties you are homefree. Plenty of times I’ve idled our past the fort getting a little splash action, just to end up in decent water next to the rocks.

What side of that hidden jetty would you say is deeper? The beach side or the harbor side? The one off Sullivans Island.
The harbor side off of Ft Moultrie / Sullivan’s Island. The grillage is popular and you’ll always find boat there. I don’t think you’ll see the submerged rocks off Sullivan’s unless the tide is really low, but they are just under the surface. I think there is a place where you can get to the outside, but I don’t know where it is and don’t know how deep it is…so unless you know, I’d avoid it.

Well I picked the wrong day last Friday regretted it as soon as I made it to the harbor. Bad crosswind on an incoming tide, retreated to Shem creek and had a successful day! thanks for the advice I will try again when mother wants to play nice.
