I dont know where to post this but my thinking is offshore people use the SPOT more!
My son is in Peru South America south of the equator! When he travels I let him use my SPOT to let us know his condition and location. He has been on the Amazon for 2 days!and no spot message!
Last night we received an E mail that said he has been hitting the spot 3 times a day but we have not received any messages! Does the SPOT not work south of the Equator??? I have used it in Costra Rica and Italy. I would appreciate any responce to your experances! Thanks in advance
There are some areas where it doesn’t work.
If he has the original one it sometimes may not be working when you think it has tx’ed.
What I do is cut it on in the morning at the ramp and tap the “ok” buttom immediately. Then leave it on all day long. When the “ok” light isn’t flashing, then you’ve waited long enough since the last time you hit the “ok” button and you can send another “ok.”
If you try to send when it hasn’t finished whatever it does with the first “ok” then it won’t be going thru.
It also needs a clear view of the sky. If in a rainforest or something it won’t get thru. Needs clear view of the horizon- not just straight up. The clear shot to the horizon seems to matter much more than having a clear shot straight up.

He was at Macha Piscu in the Pereuvin Andes. He said neither his SPOT or cellphone would work in Lima but worked well in the Amazon and in the mountains!
