Yesterday I put my kayak in the Ashler River as the sun began to rise. I wanted to squeeze a short fishing trip in before my 9 a.m. shift began at The Citadel. I put in off the dock beside The Citadel boathouse. The tide was 2 hours from dead low and the creek was already really shallow. As I paddled out bait was everywhere! Some shrimp even jumped into my kayak. I caught more bait than I needed in one cast. I staked out my kayak near the mouth of the creek and tossed finger mullet out. After a short while I notice some movement near the bank. It was a tailing red! I tossed my popping cork in front of the fish and he took the bait! The fish battled me for over 6 minutes before I landed him. I took some pictures and off he went. I fished a little longer and worked my way back to the dock. There was only a sliver of water leading back to the dock. I barely made it, but I showed to work right at 9!
