Spotless Tail Bass

Fished the top of the outgoing tide and found a few fish that were willing to eat some finger mullet. I initially went up on a flat about an hour after high tide on Thursday afternoon and could not find any fish in spots where I usually find them at the samish tide. I decided that rather than search the rest of the flat, I would go back to the mouth of the flat and fish a spot where I would normally fish about half-way down the tide. The fish were there, got three fish in the boat and lost a couple of others in about an hour of fishing. Looking at my fishing logs, I’ve concluded that fish are often “ahead” of where I think they are going to be rather than “behind”. Meaning if I think they should be on a flat and can’t find them they have already left the flat and are in the creek. Bottom line is to keep moving until you find the fish, which is what everyone always says but is sometimes hard to execute smartly. Fish were caught on finger mullet on carolina rigs, jig heads, and a popping cork. Picture is of a spotless bass about 30".

Nice report…did he have a spot on the other side? I have caught several with only a spot on one side!

No spots on either side.

Obviously an non-conformist fish. Nice job.
