Spots

My grandparents want me to take them spot fishing. I know nothing about it. I have seen people anchored off of the harbor end of Sullivans fishing for them, so I guess thats as good a spot as any. Is there a certain tide that is better? What type of rig do you use? Anybody know the catch and size limits? Apparently I have some research to do before I take them, so I’m comming to the experts first. Please feel free to share any and all info you want to share on catching these little critters. I really look forward to putting my grandparents on some fish, and paying them back for all those years they did the same for me.

Use a bottom rig with no 6 to no 4 hooks and a sinker heavy enough to hold bottom - even 2 hooks are fine. My wife likes 2 hooks cause she likes to catch 2 at the time. For bait, Fishbites in the blood worm scent are thye best thing to use. I have used red worms that are used for fresh water and they worked.

Fishbites will also catch whiting, which are a better fish to freeze.

We went to the jetties last weekend on a beautiful day and the spot fleet was not there. I wondered if the run is over.

I hope its not over. The plan is to go next week, so hopefully they will hold out. If not, I’ll have to show my grandparents my terrible trout and spottail catching techniques [:I].
