Was fishing on the Cooper the other day and the spots were jumpin’ It really sucked because I didn’t have anything for topwater. Any ideas for what works? Also, live or artificial? Thanks in advance.
if they’re right on top, any of the following:
-spook jr or super spook
-mirrolure top dog
-badonkadonk
if they won’t commit to walking the dog but you think they’re watching you, i will usually switch for one of these subsurface methods:
-yo zuri floating minnow
-shallow diving “broke back” jointed rapala
-spinnerbait
-chatterbait
-live fish/shrimp ~18" under popping cork
bright colors (chrome/chartreuse) for murky water/low light, very subdued for bright/clear. i catch fish topwater in the middle of sunny days sometimes- many of the above come in models that are completely clear. any mullet mimic (top dog has a really good looking one) is a sure bet for a variety of conditions if you choke on the price tag and need to start with a small arsenal.
this was my first, and it’s still catching fish:

last thing before i go splash my boat is that many of the above hard plastics come with hooks that can be straightened by an angry 30" class red on braid. ask the guys at the store about some strong, saltwater-rated improvements.
Zoom pearl white super fluke.
Excuses? I’ve heard them all!
Thanks y’all, after Darlington this weekend and I’m able to get out next weekend, I’ll let you know how it goes. Appreciate it again.
