Spotted gar

I’m going over to albany, GA in a couple of days to my grandfather’s place and I always see fairly large spotted gar swimming high in the water (attached is a picture I took a couple of years ago) have any of you had any experience catching them? Family has told me they are nasty fish to be avoided but I’ve always been curious about catching one just for the experience. The gar angler’s sporting society’s website has some nice tips and they seem to be less of a hassle than catching longnose gar.

They should be fun to catch. Post a report. The GASS site probably will provide all you need to know.

take a small section of white or yellow rope, fray the end, and work like a trick worm. Works every time.

Makes great fun with a flyrod!
