Spray guards

bought a boat that has… guess they are called spray guards.
They run from the front of the hull to the middle. I have taken it out in 3’ seas and seemed to work… i guess, didn’t get wet…
Seems like if you hit a 5’ wave they would just rip right off, or actually dive the boat.

I’ll try to take a better picture tomorrow.
Guess my question is, has anyone used these?

I saw them a long time ago being installed on a boat on ship shape tv. Supposed to be pretty awesome. Help get on plane faster and keep the spray down. I’d keep em on there if you were thinkin of takin em off.

Ever think that some people just shouldnt be on the water, but hey its funny for the rest of us!

I think that is like what GutWrench has on his boat. Send him a pm if he doesn’t see this.

Bring on the 2-3 chop!

Nice new boat! Maybe we can team up this summer and head outta Murrell’s?

See if this link works. There’s a whole discussion on this on another site. They call them smart rails. Excuse me and delete this thread if I am violating forum rules by posting a link to another site.

I don’t understand how this would work. Do they ride on the water line? Looks too low to be work like a “Carolina Flair”. Does it effect the handling of the craft in a bad sea?

Never been in a boat with them but I have seem em. I assume they do the same thing as reverse chines. Should work fine, but do realize that you are still in a CC.

Coates – the 7" Lowrance is about in your range.

Looks like an awesome unit. Granted, it’s not a Garmin, but…

(FWIW, I have a Lowrance, and it’s cool, but I’m used to the Garmin, so I prefer it.)

Just to bring this back up after taking it out in rough seas (4’+ seas)… We got soaken wet! head sea, following sea, didn’t matter.
Not that i went into buying this boat thinking it was going to be a very dry boat, but i don’t think the rails do a whole ■■■■ lot in anything over 3’ seas.
