Spring Break

I want to take the wife and kids somewhere for our spring break in April. We’ve done the Disney/Universal/Busch Gardens thing, Did Sanibel last year, all much fun and great memories but, this year I’d like to do something different. My wife is a teacher and I’m a state employee (not agency head) so money is not unlimited. With that in mind, have any of you had some good family experiences that you would recommend? What about cruises, trips somewhere exotic, etc? I would love to hear about any ideas you may have.
Thanks

This past summer we - including grandkids - spent 4 days in Gatlinburg and even though I had been before, we had not done Dollywood. We had a great time - Dollywood was not crowded when we went.
Also recently we started back(went 40 years ago)to St Augustine, Florida. I really like it there and it is not a long trip.
Also we are doing a family Christmas present next month - 4 day cruise for 7 (two grands 3 & 7 - their first cruise).
Ask your kids where they would like to go -

EWC

You gotta love the South Carolina Lowcountry.

ever think about renting a houseboat? they are all over FL.

No I have not but, that is something to consider…fish all day and never leave home.

What’s the budget? In May of 2007 I took the wife and boys (at that time 4.5 and 6 years old) out to www.lostvalleyranch.com
It was one of the best vacations Ive ever been on. We went during May, which isnt their busy season and they went out of their way to accomodate any special requests we had and if the kids didnt want to go riding, they pulled a staff member off her duty to be the nanny while we were off having fun. Food was great, too.

Go Tigers!!!

No set budget but trying to keep it reasonable. I work for the state but who knows for how long or how many more furlough days I will have to take. Sounds like an interesting trip, I’ll check out the website.

Thanks

check into the dominican republic. we stayed at an all-inclusive resort for cheap as hell. 9 restaurants, 13 bars, casino, numerous pools, free snorkeling, boating, etc… we stayed at the melia caribe resort in punta cana. just dont leave the resort and dont drink the water:wink:. but for the blue collar worker, you cant beat the prices and service you recieve from it. 24 hr buffets and bars all included in the price.

How about a trip down to Key West. Very nice place

Check out the Smokey Mountains in NC (Cherokee), as well as Williamsburg, VA…

My wife and I flew to Vegas, spend a day there, then drove to see National Parks (Arches and Yosemite were my favorite), saw San Francisco and then did a wine tour of the Russian River Valley. We flew out of Sacramento. It was a lot of driving, but relatively inexpensive and we got to see a lot of country we’d never see before.
