Spring temps

With the warmer weather we have been having its starting to look like spring isn’t that far off. Do you guys think the inshore fishing will be heating up soon with these temps and more importantly the surf???

If winter follows it’s usual pattern, we’ll have at least one more cold snap before it officially ends. Probably in mid-March.

“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?

The toughest fishing inshore here is in March and April. Redfish get very spooky and feed on tiny critters. Sheeps are ready for romance offshore. Flounder have not moved in yet. Most trout are dead. Good luck.

Wow!!! If that doesn’t get me excited about hitting the water tomorrow. Lol!!!

“…be a man and PM me.”

I predict another cold snap around the next full moon.Howd the fishing go bangstick?

Raddaddy has got way more experience on this than I do, but I may disagree with him on this one. I think late Jan to mid Feb are consistently are hardest months to fish. The reds are still schooled up and have been beaten silly by us and dolphins and the trout are still in winter feeding mode.

March and April bring some REALLY slow days but there are going to be some days that you’ll do great compared to Jan and Feb… I think the early spring is the hardest to predict but at least you’ll have some good days. The water is warming, the fish are starting to feed more aggressively and at least you won’t freeze to death while you’re out there (I say this as it’s 80 deg in Feb).

I think in brackish water the catching is strongest for me Nov through Feb, especially on redfish. I don’t fish flats very much so I think where you fish makes a difference. I think what RAD was getting at, and I agree, is that in March you have a worm hatch, soft shell crabs, and a general shift between winter and summer patterns making them harder to pattern and catch consistently. My least favorite month is March but I’m always happy to be on the water trying

BTW YnR knows what he’s talking about too!

Can’t argue with that and for sure there are better months.

I’m sure you are most probably maybe probably right. Dang it I don’t want to lose my Blueberries again!

Spring temps, will take a bit to warm water temps… Raddaddy covered it as I believe to be true.

Thing about fishing… You never know until you actually go! Even in the prime season, you can get a skunk!

Great! So did I, but it doesn’t mean it was not the TOUGHEST month especially on the flats. There are definitely fish to be caught, but for me, things are more challenging so far this year.

I’ve always thought February was tough but I can’t recall any stellar days in March that stand out for inshore but I also don’t focus on inshore as much in march since I expand my fishing then. But to me I have lower expectations in February and catching more than a handful in February in a few hrs is good to me. February is usually when our temps bottom out but this year is odd because of the freezing January and hotter than average February. I think its gonna be really good fishing this year even with the fish kill. Its been good to me so far but I get more dialed in every year. I’ve had two trips inshore where I’ve been skunked but 1 was mostly scouting and the other was more on me than the fish. I missed 3 nice ones and couldn’t take the nats any more so I took a skunking.

March and April are the months I plan all my home, vehicle, boat projects. It’s “maintenance” time and directly reflects my inability to catch fish.

This year is new trailer bunks and hardware, replace oil hub bearings/seals, revamp the trolling motor replacing the plastic controller housing and brackets, annual outboard 100hr service, replace the water heater, install new exterior door, and lay plastic under the house. Also is my kickoff of lawn maintenance/weed control.

Once everything is done the garage gets cleaned, organized, and prepared for another year of tossing whatever where ever. It’s the only time of year I know where all my stuff is.

I have a few more project on the books but may get pushed back a year.

This is my opportunity to ensure home projects do not interfere with my fishing season.

When I cranked the truck up around 0530 all the windows had a heavy frost on em and temp was showing 30*. Blueberries and pear are in full bloom. Fingers crossed,

edit
So far all seems ok! Looks like more frost for Wed and Thur night, but no hard freeze. Caught a couple of Large Mouths out the pond and they were full of eggs. Spring is coming!

You can catchem. Weather doesn’t always cooperate.cold snaps send them deep, warm stretches get them shallower. Molting season has reds eating crabs and we get a worm hatch (better use a fluke or Trout trick). A majority of people wait till May. They eat something every day just like me.

Enjoy the water why there isn’t a hundred mofos everywhere. I really like winter inshore fishing because you usually don’t have a bunch a dummies waking and spooking your spot or the guys who see your pole bent and pulls up and cast at your line.

Not a lot of jetskies out this time of year!

It is sad how many these days will crowd a spot instead of moving on. I’ve found in the summer and fall if you can fish during the week days and avoid the weekends it is a little more peaceful.

Why Bruce?.. the ramblings of a disillusioned Hillary supporter.
