I keep spinning the props on my 2011 250 mercs. Has happened three times in one year. Happened yesterday 35 Miles off. Slow ride back. This should not happen. Any ideas ?
What prop are you running and what were the operating conditions when they spun. Did you catch air off a wave?

Were they new props or rebuilt? Might want to find new prop shop!
Nothing abnormal when the port prop spun. Running about 28mph in the trough and it just spun. Tried to replace it with new spare prop and found that it would not go on. Found out today that we were doing it wrong. Were able to get the pop on only half way so we went with it and then other prop spun. did the same thIng and headed in at 8 mph at 4000 rpm. So much air in the prop. We found out today that we were trying to put the hub on first and it should have been the prop first.
The stainless props were not mercury recomended as we found out later. The spare aluminum props were the right ones just put them on wrong and didnt take time to read the iinstructions. With a three foot sea at our stern we were more concerned about the man in the water to get the instructions out.
When we got back to the dock the tide and wind were running hard. Had to go into reverse at the dock and lost both props. We dove today at low tide and retreived them.
Will now get the wright props and inserts and keep the spares. Hard way to learn but a great lesson for us and anyone going off shore. Be ready. Had we known how to install we would have fished all day and had a great story. Hard to end your day at 7:30 at 35 miles and limp home.
The good part is we made it safe. No body got hurt other than pride and a few bucks.
The fish owe us one now.

Glade you made it sounds as if you have luck like mine!
