Could happen anywhere. My son found a house on James island to rent on Craigslist. Sounded to good to be true price was below what I thought the market was by looking a similar apartments. The supposed landlord had moved to another state and was going to rent the house out for a while sent a lease agreement and wanted money wire transferred. I actually went to the address and the house it was unoccupied, I then logged on to the Charleston County Tax Assessors website and searched the property address and lo and behold the actual owner lived in another house in Charleston county but was not the same person as the one advertising. I sent the real owner a letter to inform them of what was going on. Buyer/renter beware my son would have been out $1000.
