Squid fishing?

I have seen fishing shows where people have gone out and caught Squid, has anyone tried this around the Charleston area?

I catch squid whenever we spend the night on the water. The Loligo squid is the same one that you get fried up as calamari. all you need is to put a light on and they will come in by the hundreds. A Hydra-Glow works best. we use glow in the dark squid jigs, and they attack them as soon as they hit the water. 120’ and out is the best. also try a live one under the lights and you will wear out the kings all night.

The ones you caught in the cast net are most likely Brief squid. They only grow to be a few inches long.

Pescador Your probably right the two that I have caught have been 4inches long. They look cool tho.

the inshore squid are the ones we call “hardheads”. they don’t get big,but are great bait for B-liners. the loligo ssquid will grow to over a foot

I caught some small squid in a cast net at Edisto a couple of years back. I picked one up (a little over an inch long) and it bit me. Stung like a bee sting… weird stuff.
