Squid?

Anybody ever use squid for redfish bait? My dad fishes for reds using frozen squid in FL and does very well with it.

The fish around here will eat just about anything. I get just about as many reds on squid as I do with mullet.

I remember several years back catching a big 25" red on a cut piece of squid on a double bottom rig with 3oz bank sinker right by the pole of a dock. So yes, I do think you can catch them on that every now and then, but is it the best bait for them, not in my opinion.

I don’t think in really matters what type of bait you use for redfish…as long as they are hungry and it smells like seafood, they will eat it. I remember catching redfish one day with an old pack of frozen ballyhoo on a Carolina rig under a dock when we couldn’t find bait.

That’s the million dollar fishers lead to an awesome day. Are they hungry!

I remember catching Northern pike on Hot dogs, trout on corn, bream on marshmallows, bass on crickets, cat fish on a gold hook, spot tail on a pumpkin-seed worm, flounder on a bucktail, … y’all name some more.

13in. Flounder on a long strip of freshly grilled steak fat on the Cooper river with my dad in 2011. The 2or3 dollar disposable grills at the grocery store. Their awesome!
