Although the weather made us nervous, we were able to enjoy our first annual safety meeting. Thank you VERY much to the USCG Aux for providing volunteers that came as far as Mt. Pleasant to provide us an excellent evening.
Education has been key to boater safety. Sadly, we have lost 4 lives to boating accidents in Charleston already in 2012. That’s WAY above the national average.
If you are interested in having the USCG Auxiliary present to your club or group, a couple of links below will help you get started. I told them I was going to post our meeting, and they definitely want to get the word out that they are available to help.

Please take advantage of this FREE and IMPORTANT resource. They get funding, and if we don’t take advantage of it and utilize it, yet another useful resource will go away. I have contacts available if you need them. Just PM me if these links aren’t sufficient.
Please be safe on our waters. Now some pics!

Dude, check you out lookin all buff and stuff. Good job with the safety meeting, I bet I could have learned a thing or two.
I had my gut sucked in so long I nearly blacked out!
It was a great meeting. Meg and the others did a drill where they had to put on their life vest while IN the water. Much easier to do BEFORE you go in, I assure you!
GREAT Q&A with members as to what to look for when buying an inflatable vest. Alot of options and USCG cleared up some confusion that will lead to a better purchase decision.
And it was fun doing the demo. POOF!! and I was afloat!
I sure hope other organizations take advantage of what USCG has to offer. They love doing it and I think we all came away a little wiser. They also did complimentary boat safety inspections at one of our weigh ins.
Kids enjoyed the pool until the thunder returned. Miler Country Club has been a wonderful partner to the club. Great people.
