I got a St Croix 7’ IPC lite power moderate action rod rated 6-12 lb and 1/8 -3/8 oz. They also make a medium/lite power fast action rod that is rated for 6-12 lb and 1/8 -1/2 oz. I mainly fish for trout but never know when a red will hit. Has any one ever fished these rods and would the
medium/lite power rod cast light 1/8 lures as well and be a better choice for reds. I have not used the rod yet and could trade up.
Which St Croix rod do you have ?? IPC is the technology they use in their rods.
St Croix makes an awesome rod and the 6-12 would match up to most 2000-3000 size spinning reels.

that thing you get just moments after you needed it.
I would swap it out. You don’t want a moderate action rod for inshore saltwater. Fast action is what you want.

Rod selection should be driven by the type of lure and technique one plans to use. For soft plastics on jigs, a sensitive fast action works well. For suspending hard baits, a moderate action rod might get the nod.
