Greetings all, I am thinking of taking a trip to Edisto Island and try shrimping in the St Helena sound this coming weekend. However, someone mentioned to me that with all of the colder weather recently that the shrimp might be “gone” or at least not on the mud flats in the sound. I do not know if this is correct or not so I was hoping that someone could give us a report. Anyone out there who was in the St Helena sound within the past few days that could give us a report on how you did would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Shrimped incoming tide Sat. got 3/4 cooler mixed.
I was on the north side of the mud flat off of Otter Island. Good luck
Thanks for the report. If I can make it out on the water this weekend I will be sure to post how I do.

Went Tuesday night on the North side of the Combahee bank. Shrimped the last 2 hours of falling and a couple of hours of the incoming. Only managed 1/3 cooler of large, with a few medium mixed. Probably could have worked for more, but was planning to hit the topwater bite Wednesday morning.
Just got home from a day on St Helena sound and I thought I would post my report. We set up on the mud flat on the far south east end off Morgan island at 11:30am, low tide. Wind was coming out of the NW so the waves were not too bad. There had to be 20 dolphins/porpoises within sight so I was hoping that was a good sign and that they were feeding on shrimp. Our first run of the poles produced exactly 1 shrimp. Not too encouraging. We sat for about 15 minutes and ran them a 2nd time, producing zero shrimp. Water was pretty clear at this point. After about two hours of sitting, testing a few poles, and fishing, I noticed that the incoming tide really started ripping through the poles and waves seemed to be churning up the bottom so that the water was a nice chocolate color. Decided to run them once more and fortunately they turned on. We ran the poles 5 more times and ended up with 3/4 of a cooler. We probably could of coolered out but we had other obligations and had to pack it in. I hate pulling poles with shrimp still on them. Size was decent with 60% large and 40% medium, we had almost no small shrimp in the bunch.
Had a great time and looking forward to next year.
