We spent the morning sneaking up on Squirrels. She was using her 410 to hunt with for the first time, and learning how to stalk hunt. The first 3 stalks she didn’t quite get within range before being busted.
Stalk #4 took her about 15 minutes, and then two rounds to knock her first shotgun killed Squirrel out of the tree. 4 more Squirrels meet the same fate from my sneaky little hunter’s scattergun.
nicely done, pop. i’ve been thinking about small game once things slow down at the house but cant decide if i want to tote the bird gun in 20ga or if i need an excuse for a .22/410 model 24

I’ve got an over under but in 22 mag /410. 22mag IMO is a lot more accurate and you have much further range at basically the same price. With the leaves dropping some of the squirrels can take a lot of patience to get into range. That said I really like getting them from a distance with the .17. Head shot only if you want any meat.
Great picture stlhunr!! .410 was my first gun dad let me buy. If she’s doing the black powder rifle, don’t rule out letting her take a deer using a slug in the .410. I killed my first deer with that at 95 yards.
Fred a 410 slug at 95 yds!!! Wow. I don’t think I would try to shoot a rabbit at 95 yes. And Salty, I know you are going to say that is because I can hardly shoot a buck at 95 yds with my 270:smiley:
Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.

We are hunting WMA though, so can’t carry Slugs while small game hunting. She shoots my ML from a small table I made for her to use while deer hunting, otherwise the gun is to heavy for her to support with her arms. Shoots her 243 Win from it as well.

I couldn’t take it hunting until I proved to dad I could hit a milk jug at 100 yards. It was a brace shot not free hand. It’s got some drop. I wouldn’t chance anything past 100 yards. My brother in law has taken several with his .44 mag pistol out to 100 yards
