I have a 4 winns horizon that was running fine. Took the family to lunch at Liberty on Lake Murray yesterday and when we throttled down to idle in the boat shut off right at the dock I had to put it in neutral to start it but it would cut off if not reeved up when I shifted into gear. We ate lunch and started back to the dam and made it to pine island and the boat shut off and we have the same problem and a bad storm so I call a buddy for a ride to the truck and come back and get it. All this is going on as a storm is coming. Only thing I did different than before is I didn’t use any Sta-bil. I989 Johnson 150
Any help will be appericated.
Potentially a main jet plugged up in the carbs, how long has it been since they were rebuilt?

I’m not sure only had it
3 months. I do know that when we bought boat they installed new plugs and filter Im wondering if it could be some trash the last time we where out we ran it all the way to empty looking for gas I thought it held 20 gallons but I was able to get 22 in it I have the original owners manual and they kept track of what they did up to 2011 Ill look back at it. Thanks for your reply.

It’s possible that you got something plugging a filter (I run a generic fuel filter on my fuel hoses just prior to the motor to avoid this sort of stuff), but it’s way easier for something to plug a main jet, that’s a fairly small hole to plug. Usually when a boat is purchased used, it’s a good idea to go ahead and clean/rebuild the carbs unless the previous owner has records that it was done recently and the motor hasn’t sat for a long time. I’m not a mechanic but I’ve seen plugged main jets do this.
Hopefully someone will speak up on other possible causes. The other obvious thing is to check that your spark plugs (even though they are new) are clean.

carb job… That should be a cross flow V6, thirsty on fuel, but generally idles very good. If its till has oil injection, get it deleted asap.
Cleaned the fuel filter and it runs good on the muffs I am going to install another extra filter. Hopefully it runs good in the water next time, Why should I delete the oil injection? Thanks for all Replies.
